Volunteer as a Counsellor

The SWAN project provides placements for qualified counsellors as well as therapists in training. We have up to 60 counsellors working at the project at any one time.

Placement applications are welcome all year round, depending on the spaces available.

We expect volunteers to offer at least four sessions a week.  We provide four hours of supervision with a group of up to four peers, twice monthly in accordance with BACP guidelines.

​

Volunteers need to be a member of BACP or an equivalent body, have an up-to-date enhanced DBS check and are expected to pay £60 per month towards the cost of their supervision and training.

​

You will need to attend an induction day, two training days on working with addictions and one on working with trauma.  These days happen on a Sunday 12 am - 5pm in our building and include a shared lunch.
